Philosophy and Methodology of Learning
The first five years of life is a tremendously critical period in time for a developing child. Throughout these formative years, a child's brain is at its most flexible, impressionable, and delicate stage. Daily life experiences during this time have a remarkable impact on the young mind; an impact that will directly shape the trajectory of their life, beyond the school-age years and well into adulthood. At Owl Always Daycare, our talented group of early childhood educators are wholeheartedly dedicated to their practice. They are ready to prepare young children to take the journey toward becoming lifelong learners. We will strive to create a healthy environment most conducive to learning and developing crucial skills. We vow to maintain a positive, nurturing, and safe space for each individual child to grow, thrive and soar to their highest level of potential.
Note: We incorporate RIELDS (Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standard) into our Programs.

Foundations:
Areas of Emphasis for enriching development
Storytelling: Encourage children to share their own stories and participate in group storytelling sessions to develop their imagination, communication skills, and vocabulary.
Language Games: Engage children in word-based activities like rhyming games and tongue twisters, promoting phonetic awareness, language fluency, and linguistic creativity.
Dramatic Play: Provide opportunities for children to engage in pretend play, allowing them to express themselves verbally, enhance their vocabulary, and develop social interaction skills.
Singing and Rhythm: Encourage children to sing songs, clap to rhythms, and use percussion instruments, promoting auditory perception, coordination, and self-expression.
Music and Movement: Engage children in dances or movements that correspond to different types of music, fostering gross motor skills, body awareness, and an appreciation for different musical genres.
Music Exploration: Provide opportunities for children to explore different musical instruments and experiment with sounds, enhancing their auditory discrimination, fine motor skills, and creativity.
Manipulative Play: Offer various toys and materials that require precise finger movements, such as building blocks, puzzles, and threading beads, fostering hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
Arts and Crafts: Engage children in activities like drawing, coloring, and cutting with scissors, promoting the development of hand muscles, creativity, and attention to detail.
Sensory Play: Provide opportunities for tactile exploration with materials like sand, playdough, or water, enhancing children's fine motor skills while also stimulating their senses.
Outdoor Play: Encourage physical activities such as running, jumping, and climbing in a safe outdoor environment, promoting overall physical development, coordination, and balance.
Dancing and Movement: Engage children in dance routines, yoga, or simple exercises to develop their gross motor skills, rhythm, and body awareness.
Obstacle Courses: Create fun and challenging courses with tunnels, cones, and balance beams, allowing children to navigate and overcome obstacles while improving their motor planning and spatial awareness.
Science Experiments: Engage children in hands-on experiments and observations to explore scientific concepts, fostering curiosity, hypothesis testing, and analytical thinking.
Technology Exploration: Introduce age-appropriate technological tools or coding games to develop basic digital literacy skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity.
Engineering Challenges: Provide building materials like blocks or recycled items, encouraging children to design and construct structures, promoting spatial awareness, creativity, and logical reasoning.
Cooperative games: Foster teamwork and collaboration through group activities that require children to work together towards a common goal, promoting empathy, communication, and social skills.
Emotional Literacy: Teach children to identify and express their emotions through activities like emotion cards or role-playing scenarios, supporting their emotional development and understanding of others' feelings.
Conflict Resolution: Provide opportunities for children to practice problem-solving and peaceful conflict resolution strategies, helping them develop positive relationships, empathy, and self-regulation.
Attention and Focus Exercises: Engage children in activities that require sustained attention, such as puzzles or memory games, promoting concentration, self-control, and mental stamina.
Sequencing and Pattern Recognition: Provide activities that involve arranging objects in a specific order or identifying patterns, enhancing children's cognitive skills of sequencing, organization, and logical thinking.
Critical Thinking Challenges: Offer problem-solving tasks or riddles that encourage children to think critically, analyze information, and make informed decisions, fostering cognitive flexibility and higher-order thinking skills.
Self-Awareness: Conscious discipline activities that emphasize self-awareness help children develop an understanding of their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Through activities such as journaling, mindfulness exercises, and reflective discussions, children learn to recognize and express their feelings, promoting self-regulation and emotional intelligence.
Positive Communication: Conscious discipline activities focus on promoting positive communication skills, such as active listening, using respectful language, and effective problem-solving. These activities foster healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and a positive classroom culture based on mutual respect and understanding.
Connection and Empathy: Engaging in conscious discipline activities that encourage connection and empathy, such as cooperative games, community service projects, and role-playing scenarios, helps children develop empathy and build strong relationships with others.
